“We’re born alone, we live alone, we die alone….?

…Only through our love and friendship can we create the illusion for a moment that we’re not alone.” – Orson Welles

is this why people feel compelled to come on [answers.yahoo] to feel part of something?

Author wanted to point out the importance of love. He makes contrast between existence and love = pure existence is an illusion, love is real.
He wanted to say you’re alone as long as you have nobody to love or to be friends with. It’s very nice idea.
In modern society you don’t need to feel love or friendship to feel part of something. Y!A is a very good example. You don’t know anybody here and you still feel part of something. World is getting more anonymous every day. And well, nobody can stop it.

Yes, people do come on Yahoo! answers to feel part of something. When someone picks his answer as best, he feels what he came to get here – appreciation. Then he comes back again and again. There are many reasons like boredom, urge to help people, maybe discussion…
My reason is to help people and to express my opinions about some things. Mostly philosophical and sociological, because this matter is the most interesting to me. Legal things are different in our country so I can’t help a lot there.

So… you can see the point – you’re not alone, ever. You’re always part of society and you don’t need to be loved to feel being part of something. But you’ll always feel lonely without your friends and people who loves you.

Humans are and have always been a social species, it has never been the norm for us to thrive in isolation. In today’s increasingly disconnected society on-line interaction has become the only form some people have, and Y/A is better than no interaction at all. There’s also the fact that the questions or answers can range from thought provoking to outright hilarious and that is not something that can be said about a lot of media these days.

Born Alone Die Alone

I agree, but I really don’t feel lonely, only sometimes (very rarely these days).

I’m “compelled” to come to yahoo answers because I am absolutely fascinated by the different points of views we have, and the way we express them. I get to learn from others ideas and share some of my own, which does make me feel a sense of togetherness…

I agree with Ek 5… I believe this quote in so many ways. We go on alone, with this illusion that we’re with others. But truly, put it all to the test, and see how false that illusion is. See how quick you realize you were never more alone in your entire life.

Oh jeez, you got me! 😀 That’s exactly why I come on Yahoo Answers! It’s because I have no other friends to make me feel as if I’m not alone! 😉

Very True! Orson Welles and YOU!!!

What beautiful illusions we create everyday on Yahoo! We feel close to some one day and feel drifting away the other. Very few Yahoo Friendships survive for long…

Illusions help us sail through life’s ups and downs…in rough sea of reality!

Of course it is true to say that we can only experience anything from the point of view of being the single thing that is having the experience and yes the feeling of contact is why we all do this, alone..

Spoken by one who never realized the truth.

We are born each as a part of the whole of all creation in which we live and from which we never truly leave.

Being is eternal as part of the cycle of birth, death and rebirth.

As we awaken to the reality of being, we remember our interconnectedness, or interdependence with all else that exist and with the Source of the same.

ADD:
As we are completely connected to all else that exist in a cosmos full of existence, it is impossible to be alone.

Humans are not the only form of existence in the cosmos.

Please, not to limit that reality of being.
