“… Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket…even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad, because I’m capping greenhouse gasses, coal power plants, natural gas…you name it…whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, they would have to…
He even knows that he won’t be a good president.
He’s just giving the people fair warning.
Because he said yesterday he intends to bankrupt the coal companies. Coal is used a lot for power generation. Along with the fact that it is the biggest source of income for thousands of miners in some of the southern states. No big deal they all lose their jobs, no skin off his nose. Of course the tree huggers in San Francisco loved it, wait till they are bitching about the blackouts, because the power grid can’t take it! He has no clue ! Shut down those power plants could easily crash the power grid for the whole country! He probably don’t understand that, he thinks you flip a switch and you have power! Wait till there all sitting in the dark sweating there butts off.
MH how much do you know about the power grid that runs this country? It’s mostly coal power generators, shut them down and so does all the electricity in this country ! My husband is an electrical eng. and has worked on power plants and the grid for years. You people are clueless if you think he can just change over anytime soon. It don’t work like that!
HE did not say they would skyrocket. He was referring to being asked about cap and trade, and that the *person asking* said rates would skyrocket.
Just to be clear, here’s the *entire* quote:
When I was asked earlier about the issue of coal…under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket…even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad, because I’m capping greenhouse gasses, coal power plants, natural gas…you name it…whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, they would have to retro-fit their operations.
Read this from the Chronicle, which conducted the interview in JANUARY, 10+ months ago. There is a link to the entire interview in the Chronicle story. Listen to all 48 minutes of it. It has been there the entire time. Interesting that Palin just seemed to find it interesting one day before the election. Did’t care about it yesterday. Didn’t care about it a month ago. In fact, the McCain campaign didn’t know about this until right wing bloggers “found” it. What else don’t they know? They sound like shady terrorists to me.
Well let’s see. We have a guy in the oval office who is now able to make a difference who has an IQ above room temperature which is something we have not seen in the past eight years. He understands the difference between solving a problem or just making it worse and blaming someone else….something we haven’t see in the past eight years. He isn’t going to cave in to special interests they way Republicans have.
He knows what’s been ignored by Bushites and will do the right thing – something that hasnt’ happened in the past eight years. Bush was interested in a war and making his fellow morons richer. He was willing to give away trillions to make his friends happy and he let the rest of us pay for it. Thanks to the Republicanazi ethics, we can look forward to paying for the war and all the bailouts for the next century while blaming everyone but the people who are responsible. What a disgrace!
Bush will not be remembered merely for being the dumbest President who made the worst decisions, he will be remembered mostly for his destruction of the environment, a fact that was nearly obscured by the other failures of this administration.
Because there are more coal fired generators than anything else, he said he intends on shutting the coal industry down so that will force power companies to change to natural gas which is much more expensive and that doesn’t even count the jobs that will be lost in the coal industry.
obama has said again and again that he will give cuts on many government issued things (except taxes!) he hopes that the money that the government will loose on those cuts can be gotten back through taxes.
my guess is that he has finally figured out the numbers (or read the wall street journal for once) that really high taxes will be nowhere near enough. my guess is that he will tax the business and then that money from the high prices will go to him.
its quite clever really. in the law of supply and demand, as price goes up, demand goes down. even with high electricity bills, it is impossible for the demands to go down. the government will be getting money. we will loose it.
it won’t help the economy.
Liberalism/Socialism strives to level the playing field. Not by bringing everyone up to the standard of the best by by taking away from until all are in poverty at the same level. Cap and trade along with taxing would make electricity unafordable for average people and they would have to cut back as they did when gasoline started climbing. Less energy used; only because it is too expensibe. The money from this would help to fund the 95% tax refund he has promised. You really didnt think the money was going to fall from the sky?
The quote in context:
“If you can’t persuade the American people that, yes, there is going to be some increase on electricity rates on the front end, but that over the long term, because of combinations of more efficient energy usage and changing light bulbs and more efficient appliances, but also technology improving how we can produce clean energy that the economy will benefit.
If we can’t make that argument persuasively enough, you can be Lyndon Johnson. You can be the master of Washington. You’re not gonna get that done. ”
He is not saying he is going to do this. He is saying that if we choose to do it we must be convinced that the long term benefits outweigh the short term costs. He is saying that if he cannot convince us it will not get done.
He wants total control of both coal and electricity–in other words he is setting the stage for a dictatorship. He is already so arrogant, and believe me, he will attempt to do just that. It will be up to the people to stop him, since congress has their noses up his butt.
Sounds like he really really hates those people who cling to their guns and religion. He wants to make the whole US like Chicago and San Fran – liberal and corrupt
