Does braces hurt being put on?

Im getting my braces put on friday and i have spacers in now which hurt like, well you should know if you had them. So i was wondering if it hurts when they put the braces on and give me the process if you can. Also is it true the first time you get them tightened hurts the most? Also is there anything i should do…

Hey Matt. I had braces put on about a year ago. Basically you just sit down and he starts by applying some goop to little brackets which he glues to each of your teeth. It takes a while, maybe about 15 minutes. Then he bonds them by using a wand that he puts on the back of your teeth for about 5 seconds each. After that they’ll slip in the wires, and then you’ll get to choose what color of ties you want! (So much fun! lol) And then your pretty much finished! It doesnt hurt much the first few hours but as the time goes on, it gets worse. I’ll by honest but the first night or the next morning its pretty brutal!! It really its pretty painful, I didnt take any tylenol but you definately can every few hours if you want. Also, eat lots of soft stuff like jello, ice cream, pudding, and shakes the first few days because its practically impossible to do. About a month later you’ll have to go back and he’ll put on heavier wires which will probabaly hurt some but not as much. Eventually it’ll get to the point where getting them adjusted doesnt bother you at all. I hope this helped! And whatever you go through, just remember I know how you feel! Take care! 🙂

Braces don’t hurt until the hour after. I should know because I got on braces a few days ago. If your braces hurt, its because your teeth are getting used to being pulled. I’m going to be honest it hurt for about 3-4 days. Just eat soft stuff such as pudding or yogurt.

Hi matt! Braces does not hurt being put on. It only hurts a little when they put the tongue blocker if your tongue gets stuck ( like a pinch) but over all it doesn’t really hurt. And bring some chapstick with you because your lips might get a bit chapped. Basically when you go inside you just take a seat and they put this thing in your mouth to keep your mouth open and they put a tongue blocker. Then they just start glueing on your brackets and if your dentist has colors for your rubber bands they ask you what color you would like and put on your bands. It might be sore and feel different but thats okay! It’ll all be worth it! I hope i helped!( i have braces on myself)

Hey, I have braces and they don’t hurt being put on. It’s okay to feel nervous I certainly was but they do put some pressure on when the put on the bands because they try to hold the wire in place and hold it to the bracket. Once the brackets are on it may be uncomfortable but the orthodontist will give you wax to put on the brackets to stop them from giving you mouth blisters. For the first couple of days it will hurt but you get to eat ice-cream, pudding, jell-o, mac & cheese and the pain/uncomfortable mouth, will go away after a couple or more days. So to answer your original question getting braces did not hurt for me but different people have different thoughts. Braces being tightened is a bit painful to me but they just put in a thicker wire and maybe springs to give teeth spacing. Good luck!

Yes it does. I had braces for 3 years. When braces were first put into my mouth it hurt and I couldn’t eat certain foods, but I got to pick a color for my braces. Take pain medicine when it hurt.

How Are Braces Put On

So for me, the process wasn’t painful but a couple days after my teeth were sore. I would recommend soft foods and pain killer. First for me I went in about a week prior and they took a mold of my teeth. Then when I went in they put glue on your my teeth and used a blue light. (they have a tool that holds your mouth open. May look scary but doesn’t hurt) then they placed they brackets on and the wire. I got to pick a color for the rubber bands. I would recommend nothing too bright if you get colors because it might be too much at first. That’s about it hoped it helped a little bit. Also when you get them tightened (every 6 to 8 weeks) they may hurt the next day but nothing to much again pain killer and soft foods. Don’t worry about getting braces. And always do what your orthodontist say (wear rubber band etc.)

I had braces put on in January, and I think the spacers hurt worse than the braces. It didn’t hurt having them put on. And the proceedure is first they find a metal band to go around your back molars, hence the spacers. than they put your mouth in a thing ( I dunno what to call it) that keeps your lips open so that your teeth are dry, cuz they have to be dry for the glue to work and then they glue the brackets on, put on the wire and then you get to choose some colorful bands to put around the brackets , which hold the wire in. Yea it hurts to get them tightened but only for a day r 2. It’s actually GREAT to have them I am excited and can’t wait to see my new smile. They will explain everything to you. You’ll also become friends with wax for the first few weeks or days depending on how you feel. Oh And some other advice get some ambesol for cankers, yeah you’ll get em and that stuff will numb them. Also a suggestion, it’s close to 4th of July do red white and blue bandsfor your brackets, I am and Ithink it will be fun, Otherwise I love to see guys in the black and red. GOOD LUCK HUN.

Nah, they don’t hurt at all as they’re being put on. Just a little bit afterwards. But when you’re done, you can go out for ice cream afterwards cause that’s something you’re allowed to eat! No sundaes or banana splits, though, I’m afraid. Just plain ice cream like chocolate or vanilla or strawberry or swirl. No cones, either. If you eat soft foods, the pain should be minimal.
