What scripture talks about speaking in tongues today?

I have a friend who is Pentecostal and i don’t believe in speaking in tongues today. i believe that they did in the bible but you cannot today. im looking for some scripture that talks about when speaking in tongues became extinct (not the right word but couldn’t think of another). please help me out….

The gifts don’t cease until what is perfect has come, according to 1 Cor. 13. Only God is perfect. When Jesus returns for His church, then the gifts will cease. Until then, all nine gifts are still needed and are still in operation. We receive the same Holy Spirit the first century church did. God doesn’t change. So why should the operation of the church be different? Jesus said His followers would speak in tongues. (Mark 16:17) The only reason the gifts of the Spirit died out by the second century was because the church was backslidden and was trading their truth for pagan doctrines. But all through history, whenever there has been a revival of Christianity and people searched scripture for more truth, there has been speaking in tongues.

1 Cor 13:8 is talking about when all believers are with the Lord. Then will the gifts vanish.

None have vanished, yet (I don’t personally believe there are apostles today).

Not all believers are given the ability to speak in tongues (1 Cor 12:30).

You may not discover it. There is nowhere within the Bible in which it says that any of those matters are extinct – medication the in poor health, elevating the useless, speakme in tongues – the Bible conveniently does no longer say that those matters will ever be performed away with. In truth the Bible says the distinct reverse: Mark sixteen:17 And those indicators shall comply with them that feel; In my title shall they forged out devils; they shall talk with new tongues The Bible does not say that this may simplest occur for a at the same time after which it can not occur any further. You are at the improper part of the argument. What you feel isn’t supported via the Bible.

As you quoted from the scripture in 1 Corinthians 13:8, speaking in tongues was to be done away. The speaking in tongues in the first century was not the gibberish that religious leaders do today. It was the ability to speak in the language of the people that the first century disciples preached to. The bible states that if there was to be speaking in tongues, then there was to be someone to translate. (1 Corinthians 14:5.) How can you believe if you can’t understand?
As you stated, speaking in tongues ended with the death of the last apostle of Jesus Christ, the apostle John.

“Whether there be prophecies, they shall fail: whether there be tongues, they shall cease: whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.” I Cor. 13:8-10. The phrase, “when that which is perfect is come,” is translated from the Greek phrase “to teleion”. The word “teleion” is a singular neuter term which refers to Jesus Christ. Thayer’s Greek-English Lexicon, p. 618, defines the phrase “to teleion” as used in I Cor. 13:10: “The perfect state of all things, to be ushered in by the return of Christ from heaven.” Paul said, “Now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part: but then (when that which is perfect is come) shall I know even as also I am known.” I Cor. 13:12. When the church, having reached her state of perfection, stands face to face in the presence of God, there will be no need for prophecies, tongues and knowledge. But until that which is perfect (Jesus Christ) is come, that which is in part will remain. And as long as there remains prophecies and knowledge, tongues shall not cease. So Paul instructed the church to COME BEHIND IN NO GIFT, WAITING FOR THE COMING OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST. I Cor. 1:7.

speaking in tongues is 1 thing, but speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance is something else altogether, I speak in tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. as far as biblical, the gift will be for your children and your children’s children and as far off as the Lord thy God shall call, look that up
